Willis Moyer Obituary

Willis J. "Bill" Moyer, age 86 of Sidney, IA passed away on Friday; Oct. 22, 2021 at the Grape Community Hospital in Hamburg, IA.

Willis Jerome Moyer was born on Feb. 18, 1935 in Nebraska City, NE; the youngest of six children of Richard C. "Pete" and Ossa O. (Coster) Moyer.  He attended the Percival Community School until the 10th grade when the family moved to Nebraska City.  He then attended Nebr. City Public School where he graduated with the Class of 1952.

Shortly after high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and honorably and faithfully served his country until his discharge in 1956.  While in the Navy, he married his high school sweetheart Doris A. Drumm on August 7, 1954 in San Diego, CA and to this union six children were born.   After his discharge from the Navy, he attended Milford Trade School for two years.  After completing school, he worked at various jobs in Seward, NE, at the Sidney Ford Dealership and at Snyder Motors in Shenandoah.  

In 1972, he started a mechanical business at his home in Sidney-with his wife Doris-which he ran for several years.  Willis was asked to teach an automotive mechanics class for Iowa Western Community College and he taught in an Auto Center for five different high schools.  After 19 years, he retired to farming and various other jobs.

He was a member of Sidney American Legion Post #128, Tabor VFW Post #7064, and Eagles Aerie #968.  He served as one of the first EMT's for the Sidney Fire/Rescue Dept, and was very active in the Sidney Presbyterian Church serving on the church board as well as a Deacon.

He is survived by his wife Doris Moyer of Sidney, IA; children:  Willis Arthur Moyer (Theresa) of Excelsior Springs, MO, Linda Marie Brown (Thomas) of Fredericktown, MO, Wendy Jo Moyer of Nebr. City, NE, Randall Scott Moyer (Denise) of Sidney, IA, Frederick Jerome Moyer (Christine) of Sidney, IA and Kurt Daniel Moyer (Kim) of Montezuma, IA: 17 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law:  Dorothy Moyer of New Braunfels, TX, Inez Moyer of Sidney, IA and Karola Moyer of Colorado Springs, CO; numerous nieces, nephews, other family and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his granddaughter Tiffany Renee Davis, sisters:  Cecilia Steckley and Rosetta McCowan and brothers:  David, Frank and Richard Moyer as well as his parents.

The family will greet friends on Monday (Oct. 25) from 5-7 p.m. at Victory Life Church in Sidney.  

Funeral Services will be held Tuesday (Oct. 26) at 11:00 a.m. at Victory Life Church in Sidney, IA immediately followed by military honors conducted by Sidney American Legion Post #128.  Inurnment will be held at a later date in the Sidney Cemetery.

Memorials may be given to the Sidney American Legion Firing Squad, Victory LIfe Church or Sidney Fire/Rescue Dept.
