William "Bill" K. Thompson was born on September 18, 1934 in Nebraska City, NE to Grace (Jones) and Orville Thompson. He passed away peacefully on December 22, 2024 at the age of 90.
In 1950, Bill's family relocated to Des Moines, IA, where he graduated from Lincoln High School in 1953. Following his graduation, Bill enlisted in the Air Force in October 1955. While stationed at Scott AFB in Illinois, he met Darlene R. Moore at the USO in Belleville, IL. They married in O’Fallon, IL on June 30, 1956, and together they had four children: twins Lindy Sue (deceased) and Cindy Lou, Tracy, and Renee.
After Bill was discharged from the Air Force, he attended a tech school in Ames, IA to become a bricklayer. While Bill was a bricklayer, he served as the Financial Secretary of the Des Moines Bricklayers Union and was a member of the International Bricklayers Union. In 1967, Bill joined the Shrine in Des Moines, IA and was a drummer in the Shriners Marching Band. Bill was also a proud member of the Elks Lodge and the Eagles Lodge. The family relocated from Des Moines, IA to Cabool, Missouri around 1976 and there they had a small farm that raised beef cattle. Bill was an avid hunter and fisherman. When Darlene and Bill retired, they moved to Branson, MO where they were both members of the Branson Dance Club.
He is survived by his wife, Darlene, their children Cindy, Tracy, and Renee, his brother Jack Thompson and his sister Mary Jo Denman, his grandchildren Courtney, Casey, Lindsey, Tanner, Kayla, and Derek, and his great-grandchildren Alize', Stephen Jr., Lily, Jordan, Payton, Elijah, Brayden, Lalayah, Naiyah, Ariella, Liam, Jameson, and step-grandson Knox.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents Grace and Orville Thompson, his brother Mike, his daughter Lindy Sue, and his granddaughter Brooke.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, June 21, 2025 at 11a.m. at Wyuka Cemetery in Nebraska City, NE. Military Honors will be conducted at the graveside service.
