Wille Thorp, 77, of Hamburg, IA, passed away on January, 25, 2024 in Nebraska City, NE. Wille was a beloved member of the community and will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
Wille Don Thorp was born on July 8, 1946, in Hamburg, IA, the son of Leonard and Wille (Cully) Thorp. He grew up in Hamburg and graduated from Hamburg High School with the class of 1964. He then attended mortuary school for a time, before returning to Hamburg, where he worked in maintenance for many years. He worked for MBPXL in Rock Port and Dodge City, KS for many years before going to work for Swift in Des Moines, IA. He then went to work for Manildra Energy as a maintenance manager and finally for Nebraska Beef before retiring in 2011.
Wille was united in marriage to Patricia Robinson in 1969 and to this union three children were born: Melissa, Nicole, and Dustin.
He was a very active member of the Hamburg community, serving two terms on the Hamburg School Board, 10 years on the Hamburg Fire and Rescue as an EMT, and three terms on the Hamburg City Council. He was involved with the Inter Church Council and Food Pantry. He attended the Assembly of God Church in Hamburg.
He is survived by his wife Patricia Thorp of Hamburg; two daughters, son, and sons in law: Melissa Thorp and David Bergantzel of Luther, IA, Nicole Thorp and John Martin of Tonganoxie, KS, and Dustin Thorp of Thornton, CO; brother, Leonard Wayne and Kay Thorp of Stoney Point, NC; four grandchildren: Jessica Martin of Tonganoxie, KS, Rebekah Martin, who is expecting her first child (fiance Layne Combes) of Emporia, KS, Izaak Bergantzel (wife Alyssa) of Scranton, IA, and Abigael Bergantzel of Luther, IA; great-grandchildren: Avery and Hudson Bergantzel of Scranton IA.
He was preceded in death by his parents Leonard and Wille Thorp; and two grandsons Patrick William and Nicholas John Martin.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Thursday, February 1, 2024, at the Assembly of God Church in Hamburg. Burial will follow in the Hamburg Cemetery.
The family will greet friends from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday (1/31) at Rash-Gude Funeral Home in Hamburg.
