Obituary
Wayne A. Phillips, age 80, of Hamburg, IA passed away on Thursday, August 17, 2023 at Grape Community Hospital in Hamburg.
Wayne was born on January 9, 1943 in Hamburg, IA; the son of James William and Nina Belle (Smith) Phillips. He grew up and attended school in Hamburg.
On May 18, 1968, Wayne was united in marriage to Beverly J. Hardy at the Baptist Church in Hamburg and to this union three boys were born: Wesley, Chris and Matt.
He worked at various jobs over the years, including road construction, night policeman in Griswold, farmer, fabricator, and carpenter. He also worked at the Popcorn Factory in Hamburg and Mount Arbor Nursery. Wayne was a member of the Eagles Club in Nebr. City and the Brothers of the Third Wheel, and enjoyed riding Mules and motorcycles.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Beverly of Hamburg, IA; three sons: Wesley Phillips and Katie of Nebr. City, NE, Chris Phillips and wife Sarah of Hamburg, IA and Matt Phillips and wife Laura of Hamburg, IA; grandchildren: Emily Phillips (Bill), Adam Phillips, Adrienne Phillips, Donavon, Zeke, Kenzlie, Peyton, Kasey and Kendra; two great-grandchildren: Archer Phillips and Evie Remmick; siblings: Floy King of Rock Port, MO, Carole Aspedon (Dick) of Beggs, OK and Don Phillips (Debbie) of Wichita, KS; step-siblings: Sharon Durham (George) of Craig, CO, Joan Feagins (Steve) of Dayton, WY and Norman Wright (Marjorie) of Polson, MT; other family and friends.
Wayne was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers: Myles and Robert.
A Memorial Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, August 26, 2023 at the Rash-Gude Funeral Home in Hamburg, IA.
The family will greet friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Friday (8/25) at the funeral home.
Memorials may be given to the Hamburg Rescue Squad, Grape Community Hospital, or Hamburg Home Health.
