Elex Wayne Hensley, age 80, of Riverton, IA passed away on Thursday, January 25, 2024 at his daughter’s home in Danville, IA.
Elex Wayne Hensley was born on October 29, 1943 in Rock Port, MO; the son of Elex and Ollie (Lewis) Hensley. He attended school in Farragut, IA and joined the United States Army on February 14, 1961. He served in West Germany with the 14th Armed Calvary Regiment until March 10, 1964. Wayne worked many years in maintenance and construction and then began driving semi-trucks in the 1970’s.
Wayne married Anni Margarete Rossing on June 19, 1964 in Bad Hersfeld, Germany. They shared over 52 years together before her passing on May 8, 2018. Wayne was also preceded in death by two sons: Luther Hensley in 2003 and Rudi Hensley in 2008.
Wayne is survived by two children: Frank Hensley (Marisa) of California, MO and Dana Babcock (David) of Danville, IA. His eight grandchildren are Michelle McCoy (Patrick), Catherine Martin (David), Eric Reeves, Ellie Reeves, Traci Thompson (Seth), Joni Bailey (Trey), Ashley Hensley, Joshua Hensley (Nataleigh). His great-grandchildren are Joel (Kayla) McCoy, Lena McCoy, the late Garret Sulsberger, Victoria Eyman, Logan Martin, Katie Martin, Caitlyn Thompson, Conner Thompson, Jackson Hensley, Eli Bailey, Bella Bailey, William Bailey, Everleigh Hensley, Hawken Hensley, Sloane Dres, Corbin Reeves, and Oliver Reeves; great-great granddaughter Tatum McCoy.
Wayne is survived by his sister, Wanda Exceen of Maryville, MO.
Refreshments will follow at the Riverton Christian Community Church, where he attended Sunday services and enjoyed morning coffees throughout the week. Wayne rededicated his life to Christ and was water baptized in the Name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit on September 2, 2018. His love for Christian teaching on Bott Radio Network sustained him spiritually for many hundreds of hours of listening and learning. His simple trust in Jesus has now moved him on to the heavenly reward that was bought and paid for in the death, burial and resurrection of Christ.
