Wayne Givens Obituary

Wayne D. Givens, age 85 of Blanchard, IA passed away on Tuesday, September 16, 2025 at the Ambassador in Nebr. City.

Wayne Dale Givens was born on February 19, 1940 in Hamburg, IA; the son of James Mose “Jim” and Helen (Hatten) Givens.  He grew up and attended school in Hamburg where he graduated from Hamburg High School with the Class of 1958. 

He entered the United States Air Force in 1960 and proudly served his country until his honorable discharge in 1964.

On July 23, 1960, Wayne was united in marriage to Carolyn (Van Renan) Givens in Hamburg, IA and to this union five children were born:  James, Patsy, Mike, Debra and Cay.  He joined the Hamburg Baptist Church in 1960.

In 1971 they moved to Blanchard Iowa where he raised cows, horses, pigs and farmed for many years. In 1981 through 1992 he owned and operated a service station in Blanchard.  

In 1993 Wayne started as an Emergency Dispatcher for Fremont and Page Counties. This job came easy for him due to him being a natural giver. He would help anyone who needed it, no matter what time of day it was. 

He retired for a short time and then went back to dispatching for the Fremont and Page Counties Senior Program.  

Wayne also volunteered for the Blanchard Fire Department for 40 years and was a member of the Masonic Lodge.

Wayne took great pride in being a grandpa. He enjoyed all his grandchildren and great grandchildren attending as many games and events as he could. 

Wayne resided at Ambassador Health of NC since 2024 where made many new friends and was proudly known as “Grandpa” by staff. 

He spent his time enjoying many activities with a few of his favorites being music programs, nerf hunting, foam axe throwing, bingo and cards. 

He is survived by his children:  James (Corrine) Givens of Shenandoah, IA, Patsy Gibler of Villisca, IA, Michael (Christine) Givens of Clarinda, IA and Debra Givens (Kenny Walker) of New Market, IA; grandchildren:  Cassie Beggs(Casey), Mary Lawson (Dustin), Breanne Gibler, Janelle Swartz (Lance), Matt Givens, Nic Givens, Justin Scroggie, Jason Scroggie, Catlin Scroggie (Satya), Nicole Givens, Jill Fichter (Derrick), Jennifer Crosby (TJ), Sam Gammell (Kenny) and Rabeka Rine (Jason) and great-grandchildren:  Sophie, Grayson, Oliver, Zoey, Wrenley, Angelique, Nikita, Keira, Caylee, Kenneth, Shaylea, Kara and Savanna; other family and friends.

Wayne was preceded in death by his wife Carolyn, daughter Cay Givens, son-in-law Chris Gibler, great-granddaughter June, great-grandson Travis Dendy, his parents and brother James "Buddy" Givens.

A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, September 24, 2025 at the Rash-Gude Funeral Home in Hamburg, IA.  Burial will follow at the Hamburg Cemetery in Hamburg, IA with Military Honors conducted by the Hamburg American Legion Post.

The family will greet friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Tues. (9/23) at the funeral home.

Memorials may be given to the family for future designation.  Condolences may be left Rash-Gude Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
