Wanda C. (Abbott) Barrett

Wanda C. Barrett, age 95 of Nebraska City, NE passed away on October 22, 2025 at the Ambassador in Nebr. City.

Wanda Colleen Barrett was born on July 28, 1930 in Coburg, IA; the daughter of Adrian A. and Nora I. (Jones) Abbott.  Her family moved to Nebraska City in 1934 when Wanda’s dad began working for George Biere.  She attended school in Nebraska City.

She was united in marriage to Dale Lavon Barrett on October 13, 1946 in Hiawatha, KS and to this union five children were born:  Sandra, Bonnie, Dale, Jerry and Jolene.  In addition to raising her family, Wanda worked at American Meter for a short time and was very active alongside her husband in the family construction business and trailer court.  Following Dale’s death she worked at the Northside School Kitchen.  Wanda was a member of the First Christian Church and was active in various activities at the church.

Those left to cherish her memory include her children:  Sandra Jensen of Salina, KS, Bonnie Pfeiffer (Ed) of Otoe, NE and Jerry Barrett (Kris) of Nebr. City, NE; six grandchildren:  David Jensen (Sarah), Jim Pfeiffer (Pam), Karen Danner (Jim), Chad Barrett (Danielle), Emily Barrett and Shawn Barrett (Gia); 15 great-grandchildren:  Raylen, Haven, Stella, Deitric, Joslyn, David (Amanda), Kellie (Ryan), Karena (Andy), Quentin (Brea), Zacheriah, Kandice, Kaytlin, Abbi, Chloe, Morgan and Lyric; eight great-great grandchildren:  Aria, Blaze, Matilda, Sullivan, Forrest, Callaway, Lincoln and Maren; sister Ellinor “Vernie” Eblen of Omaha, NE; other family and friends.

Wanda was preceded in death by her husband Dale in 1988, her son Dale “Butch” in 2005, infant daughter Jolene in 1971, granddaughter Julie in 1995, her parents and siblings:  Lola Barrett (Delbert), Martin Abbott (Lorraine), Everett Abbott (Margaret), Darold Abbott (Janice), Tom Abbott (Mary Lou), Carl Abbott, Guy Abbott (Gail) and Larry Abbott.

A Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, October 29, 2025 at Gude Mortuary in Nebr. City with Rev. Michael Njus officiating.  Burial will follow at Wyuka Cemetery in Nebr. City.

The family will greet friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Gude Mortuary on Tues. (10/28).

Memorials may be given to the First Christian Church in Nebraska City.
