Vicki Jo (Aufenkamp) Denniston

Vicki Jo Denniston, age 60 of Lake Waconda passed away on Tuesday, September 5, 2023 at the Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, NE.

Vicki Jo was born on September 10, 1962 in Nebraska City, NE; the daughter of Jack and Patricia Jo (Marion) Aufenkamp.  She grew up and attended school in Nebraska City where she graduated from Nebraska City High School with the Class of 1980.

She spent most of her life in food service. She was a longtime server at the Embers in Nebraska City and was an original member of the opening staff at the Lied Lodge, progressing to management in her career there.  She also worked as the food and beverage manager at Arbor Links Golf Course, and in her later years she operated a cleaning business.

In 1995, Vicki met Gary Denniston and the two spent close to 30 years together, marrying on March 13, 2020. She was a devoted grandmother and enjoyed spending time with her granddaughters. She especially enjoyed their shopping trips and sleepovers where she was able to spoil them. She also loved to host parties and gatherings at the lake where she could enjoy time with friends and with her family.

She is survived by her husband, Gary Denniston of Lake Waconda; son Jason Stoll and wife Jena and their daughters Makenzie and Bryndal of Nebraska City, NE; daughter Melissa Long (Josh) and their daughters Ruby and Mia of Aledo, Texas; step-sons:  Chris Denniston and Michael Denniston (fiancé Kaitlyn Eller and son David); step-daughter Elizabeth Roller (Ben) and their sons Harvey and David; brother Jeff Aufenkamp of Fremont, NE; her beloved dog Taz; other family and friends.

Vicki was preceded in death by her parents, Jack and Pat Aufenkamp.

A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, September 11, 2023 at Gude Mortuary in Nebraska City.  Burial will follow at Wyuka Cemetery in Nebr. City.  Per Vicki’s wishes, please wear casual attire because it’s your presence that is most important.

Memorials are suggested to a charity of the donor’s choice.
