Veda E. Bennett, age 99 of Nebraska City, NE passed away on Monday, February 24, 2025 at the Ambassador in Nebr. City.
Veda Eva Bennett was born on September 1, 1925, on her family’s farm near Weeping Water, NE; the daughter of Elmer and Hazel (McClane) Horner. She attended school in the Nehawka/Murray area.
She married Leonard “Pete” Bennett on June 15, 1947 in Nebr. City and to this union two children were born: Merri Lynn and Allen. She also had a daughter Virginia Ward from a previous marriage.
Veda and Leonard lived and worked on a farm south of Nebraska City until they moved to town in 1978. Veda worked at the Nebraska City Post Office until her retirement. At the age of 63 she attained a Massage Therapist License and worked out of her home for over 25 years. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the Nebraska City Garden Club, the American Legion and VFW Auxiliaries and the Red Hat Society. She also served as Director of the Otoe County Respite Program for many years. Veda was passionate about helping others, traveling, and spending time with family.
Those left to cherish her memory include her children: Merri Lynn Drzycimski of Sioux Rapids, IA and Allen (Janene) Bennett of Nebr. City, NE; seven grandchildren: Aaron Bennett, Adam (Anne) Bennett, Becky Sturm, Aric (Tara) Bennett and Ryan (Tawna) Bennett all of Nebr. City, NE; Mark (Kate) Drzycimski of Sioux Falls, SD and Paul (Krissie) Drzycimski of Alta, IA; 24 great-grandchildren: Keegan and Paige Stones, Trevor Bennett, Tylor, Natalie and Abbie Sturm, Hollie Rice, Josie, Carter and Lexie Bennett, Bodhi and Margo Bennett, Will (Hannah) Drzycimski
Liam (Moregan) Drzycimski, Abram (Addy) Drzycimski, Josiah Drzycimski, Addie (Jamie) Bleyenberg, Elias, James, Helen and Noah Drzycimski, Charlie, Myron and Grace Drzycimski, and four great-great grandchildren; sister Thelma Schroeder of Cortland, NE; many nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
Veda was preceded in death by her husband Leonard Bennett; daughter Virginia Ward; brother Floyd Horner; sisters Bertha Morton and Dorothy Splitt; brothers-in-law William Splitt and Roy Schroeder, and son-in-law Greg Drzycimski.
Memorials may be given to the Otoe County Respite Program.
