Obituary
Thomas O. “Tom” Mead, age 84, of Nebraska City passed away on Friday morning, August 4, 2023 at the Ambassador in Nebraska City.
Tom was born on July 3, 1939 in Union, NE; the son of William and Ethel (Hathaway) Mead. He grew up in the Union area and graduated from Nehawka High School with the Class of 1957.
On July 26, 1957, he was united in marriage to Shirley Claudine Lechner in Nebraska City and to this union three sons were born: Thomas, Robert and Bradley. She preceded him in death on October 6, 2021.
Tom worked for Nebraska City Utilities for 40 years before retiring in 2002. After his retirement, he drove truck for B & B Trucking. He also was a Bartender for many years, an umpire for baseball and softball games and he drove the school bus for the Nebraska City Public Schools starting in 2010. Tom served as a scout master for several years and was a life-time member of the Eagles Club.
He is survived by sons: Robert “Bob” Mead (Loretta) of El Mirage, AZ and Bradley Mead (Susan) of Nebr. City, NE; daughter-in-law Ann Marie Mead of Ft. Collins, CO; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; brother and sisters in law: Glen and Peggy Lechner of Nebr. City and Carol Lechner of Lincoln, NE; other family and many friends.
In addition to his wife, Tom was preceded in death by his son Thomas O. Mead in 2014, grandson Bryan Mead in 1982, great-grandson Robert Gregory Mead in 2022 and sisters: Norma and Billie
A Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 8, 2023 at Gude Mortuary in Nebr. City with Pastor Terry Weible officiating. Burial will be held at a later date in Wyuka Cemetery at Nebr. City.
The family will greet friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Monday (8/7) at Gude Mortuary.
