Terri Lee (Wurtele) Schlichtemeier

Terri Lee (Wurtele) Schlichtemeier was granted eternal peace on Monday, June 22, 2020.  Her husband and two sons were by her side as her battle with Covid-19 came to an end.

Terri was born on December 30, 1957 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Nebraska City, NE, the daughter of Donald D. “Red” and Jean L. (Kreifels) Wurtele.  She was raised in Nebraska City and attended Lourdes Central Catholic, graduating with the Class of 1976.  

On January 11, 1980, Terri was united in marriage to Thomas J. Schlichtemeier at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Nebr. City.  They settled on the family farm near Nehawka, NE.  Though Terri held many titles - friend, sister, wife, mother - grandmother was her most prized.  She was a member of Church of the Holy Spirit in Plattsmouth, NE.  Terri was an avid “holiday decorator” and looked forward to displaying her decorations for family and friends.

She worked for Head Start in Nebr. City for five years and then Terri and her friend, Monica Uhe, started their own housecleaning business; their work and fun lasted nearly 15 years.  Afterwards, Terri spent most of her time with new grandchildren.  She shared her love of gardening and cooking with them, while showing them what it is to love and care for the people that mean the most.  Recently, one of her granddaughters told Terri that she was “Everybody’s Mom,” which perfectly summed up Terri’s never-ending, unconditional love she held for all of her family and friends.

She is survived by her husband of 40 years, Tom Schlichtemeier of Murray, NE; sons:  Tony Schlichtemeier and wife Jessica of Nehawka, NE and Cory Schlichtemeier of Nebr. City; daughter Danielle Buck and husband Nate of Lincoln; five grandchildren:  Spencer, Cora, Olivia, Teagan and Paisley ; siblings:  Donna Jean Maybee and Carrie Lynn Wendt both of Lincoln, Curt Wurtele (Mary) of Nebr. City, Renee Hauder (Bill) of Omaha, Randy Wurtele (Connie) and Mike Wurtele (Barb) both of Nebr. City, Christine Blake (Howard) and Kay Steuer both of Lincoln, and Elaine Tasler (Jerry) of Atkinson, NE; brother-in-law Dr. William Schlichtemeier (Jeanette) of Omaha; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and other family and friends. 

Terri was preceded in death by her parents, infant brother Bradley, grandson Myles Buck and nephew Noah Wendt.

Memorials may be given to an Education Fund established for Terri's grandchildren, or to the favorite charity of the donor.
