Stephen C. "Steve" Bryant

Stephen C. “Steve” Bryant, age 73 of Nebraska City passed away on Friday; March 31, 2023 at the Ambassador in Nebraska City.

He was born on April 17, 1949 in Nebraska City, NE; the youngest son of Carl J. and Dorothy R. (Garris) Bryant.  He attended school in Nebraska City and graduated from the Nebraska City High School with the Class of 1967.

On June 8, 1968 he was united in marriage to Iva L. Thorne at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Nebraska City.

He entered the U.S. Army in 1969 during the Vietnam War and faithfully served his country until his honorable discharge in 1971. 

Steve worked for the Burlington Northern Santa Fe (BNSF) Railroad for 41 years.  He began his career with the railroad as a laborer and worked his way up to machine operator.  He was a member of the Eagles and a former member of the American Legion.  He was an avid golfer!

He is survived by his wife Iva Bryant of Nebr. City; daughter Lynn Joy (Michael) of Shenandoah, IA; grandchildren Addison Lynne and Olivia Ann; sisters and brothers in law:  Kay Bryant of Nebr. City, Connie Graves (Mike) of Nebr. City, Beverly Keene (Doyle) of Nebr. City, Rex Thorne (Gayle) of Ogallala, NE and Roger Thorne (Michelle) of Harlan, IA; other extended family members and many friends.

He was preceded in death by an infant son Stephen S. Bryant (11/1/69), daughter Stephanie G. Bryant (4/19/14), brothers:  Jim and Tom Bryant as well as his parents.

Services will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 5, 2023 at Gude Mortuary in Nebr. City.  Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Nebr. City with complete military honors.

The family will greet friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday (4/4) at the mortuary.

A Memorial Fund is being established in Steve’s memory.
