Stephen J. Golden

Stephen J. Golden, age 35 of rural Nebraska City passed away after a brief illness on Wednesday, July 5, 2023 at his home.

Stephen John Golden was born on November 12, 1987; the son of John S. and Elaine A. (Schnitzer) Golden.  He was baptized in 1987 at St. Benedict’s Catholic Church and also had First Communion and was confirmed at St. Benedict’s.  He attended school in Nebraska City and graduated from Nebraska City High School with the Class of 2006.

Stephen began farming with his Grandpa John and his father and grew to love his heritage, wildlife, and the land.  Family was the most important thing to Stephen.  He had a kind heart and protected those he loved.

He is survived by his mother and father John and Elaine Golden of Nebr. City; sister Anne Ziola and her husband Ryan of Lincoln, NE; brother Paul Golden of Millard, NE; paternal grandmother Freda (Jacobsma) Golden of Nebr. City, NE; nephews and niece:  Seth Golden, Brooke Golden and Bennett Ziola; his beloved Border Collie Queenie; aunts, uncles, cousins and other family and friends. 

Stephen was preceded in death by his older brother David Lee Golden on September 27, 1984; his maternal grandparents John and Evelyn (Bennett) Schnitzer and paternal grandfather William R. Golden.

A Private Family Graveside Service will be held at a later date at Camp Creek Cemetery southeast of Nebraska City.
