Stanley Ohnmacht Obituary

Stan D. Ohnmacht, age 73 of Nebraska City, NE passed away on Tuesday, July 9, 2024 at Hillcrest Health and Rehabilitation in Bellevue, NE.

Stanley Dean Ohnmacht was born on November 3, 1950 in Nebraska City, NE; the son of Christian Frederick and Helen Maria (Volkmer) Ohnmacht.  He grew up in Nebraska City and attended Lourdes Central Catholic, graduating with the Class of 1969.  He then attended Peru State College where he received a bachelor’s degree in English.

On May 26, 1972, Stan was united in marriage to Karen Sue Buchanan and to this union a daughter, Sabrina, was born.

Stan began his career in broadcasting and worked for KNCY for three years before becoming a Police Officer.  He devoted 26 years to the Nebraska City Police Department and the Nebraska City community.  He then worked as a Security Guard for Cargill for 10 years.

Stan was a lifelong member of St. Benedict’s Catholic Church and served as an acolyte for many years.  He also belonged to the Knights of Columbus and the Eagles Club.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 52 years, Karen Ohnmacht of Nebr. City, NE; daughter Sabrina Ohnmacht (Michael Behm) of Bellevue, NE; brother David Ohnmacht (Linda) of Centennial, CO; niece Bryony Lovelette (Eric Marshall) of Denver, CO and nephew Ian Lovelette of Centennial, CO; furry kids:  Sophie and Murfy; other family and friends.

Stan was preceded in death by his father Chris in 2002 and his mother Helen in 1997; Brother Stephen J. Ohnmacht in 2015 and an infant sister Eileen.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, July 19, 2024 at St. Benedict’s Catholic Church in Nebraska City, NE.  Burial will follow at St. Benedict’s Cemetery in Nebr. City.

The family will greet friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday (7/18) at Gude Mortuary in Nebr. City.  There will be a Rosary Recitation at 7:00 p.m.

Memorials may be given to the family for future designation.
