Shirley Potter Obituary

Shirley A. Potter, age 88 of Humboldt, NE (formerly Nebr. City) passed away on Monday, March 14, 2022 at Pawnee Community Memorial Hospital in Pawnee City, NE.

Shirley was born on January 20, 1934 in St. Joseph, MO; the daughter of Julius Jacob and Pansy Alberta (Allen) Baur.  She grew up and attended school in St. Joseph, graduating from Lafayette High School with the Class of 1951.

On November 8, 1953, Shirley was united in marriage to Howard Potter Jr. in Omaha, NE and to this union four children were born:  David, Kevin, Cindy and Brad. 

Shirley worked for American Meter for 27 years and 2 months before retiring in 1995.  She lost her husband in October of 2009 and then moved to Humboldt in 2010 to be closer to family.  While living in Humboldt she volunteered with the Humboldt Methodist Church Summer Lunch Club and AseraCare Hospice.  She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Humboldt and a former member of the First United Methodist Church in Nebr. City.  She was a den mother for the Cub Scouts when her boys were active in the organization. 

Those left to cherish her memory include her children:  David Potter (Mary) of Lincoln, NE, Kevin Potter (Kathryn) of Lincoln, NE, Cindy Stalder (Darwin) of Humboldt, NE and Brad Potter (Thomas Bordenkircher) of East Peoria, IL; nine grandchildren:  Stephanie Potter, Jonathan Potter, Rebecca Sands, Caitlyn Potter Glaser, Jeremy Potter, Ashley Sherman, Jamie Stalder, Dustin Stalder and Laura Stalder;  seven great-grandchildren:  Cass Pinkham, Charlotte Pinkham Potter, Aghna Pinkham Potter, Prior Sands, Marlowe Sands, Dallas Sherman and Cadence Sherman; other family and friends.

In addition to her husband Howard, she was preceded in death by brothers:  Don Baur, Julius Baur Jr. and Gene Baur as well as her parents.

A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, March 18, 2022 at the United Methodist Church in Humboldt, NE with Pastor Dorothy Smith officiating.  The funeral service will be Live Streamed on the church’s Facebook Page.  Burial will take place at Mt. Olive Cemetery, southeast of Hamburg, IA at 3:00 p.m.

On Thursday (3/17) there will be Open Visitation from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Family Visitation from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the church in Humboldt.

Memorials may be given to the Humboldt Methodist Church Summer Lunch Club.
