Sharon Ann Kotas

Sharon A. Kotas, age 87 of Nebr. City passed away on Wednesday, March 5, 2025 at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Lincoln, NE.

Sharon Ann Kotas was born on May 11, 1937 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Nebr. City; the daughter of Mark Henry and Ella Marie (Wurtele) Schreiner.  She attended school at Country School District #11 and then Dunbar High School where she graduated with the Class of 1955.

On September 16, 1956, she was united in marriage to Richard F. “Butch” Kotas Jr. at Bethel United Church of Christ in Nebr. City and to this union a daughter, Cynthia was born.  In addition to raising their daughter, Sharon worked at American Meter in Nebr. City for some 30 years before retiring.  She was a member of Bethel Church in Nebr. City.

Sharon is survived by two sisters:  Donna Fish (Bob Zastrow) of Lincoln, NE and Janis Westerby of Grand Island, NE; five nephews:  Mark Fish (Christie) of Kearney, NE; Brad Fish, Jeffrey Westerby (Julie), Michael Westerby and Douglas Westerby all of Grand Island, NE; three nieces:  Julie Schram (Kenny) of Louisville, NE, Leesia Weihs (Jeff) of Crescent, IA and Rhonda Wilke (Mike) of Omaha, NE; two step-grandchildren:  Patricia and Michael; four step great-grandchildren:  Patricia, Morgan, Michael Joseph and Drake Ryan other family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband Dick Kotas on June 2, 2009; daughter Cynthia Blankenfeld on Feb. 9, 2005; son-in-law Geno Blankenfeld on June 5, 2023; brother Larry Schreiner on April 15, 1996; her parents and brothers-in-law:  Wes Westerby on Sept. 28, 2016 and Robert Fish on Feb. 14, 1994.

A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 12, 2025 at Bethel Church in Nebr. City with Pastor Jacob Colligan officiating.  Burial will follow at Wyuka Cemetery in Nebr. City.

Memorials may be given to Bethel Church.
