Sharon K. Bates, age 75 of Nebraska City, NE passed away on Friday, April 8, 2022 at her home.
Sharon was born on September 21, 1946 in Odell, NE; the daughter of Walter Oscar and Hazel Alberta (Poell) Callender. She graduated from the Hanover High School, Hanover, KS with the Class of 1964.
In her younger years, she worked for the Airline Industry in Customer Service. She later worked for the FBI (Federal Bureau of Investigation) where she worked as a Fingerprint Technician.
On June 7, 1975, Sharon was united in marriage to Marshall “Bud” R. Bates in Beatrice, NE.
Sharon worked for some 20 years providing in home daycare to many children. She later began her career at St. Mary’s Hospital where she worked for 25 years until her retirement. She was a member of the Eagles Auxiliary, Lions Club and the American Legion Auxiliary.
Those left to cherish her memory include her daughter: Chris Runyon of Nebr. City, NE; three step-sons: Marshall Bates of North Bend, OR, Lee Bates (Jenny) of Humboldt, NE and Lem Bates of Nebr. City, NE; two grandchildren: Adri and Coltyn; six step-grandchildren: Devon, Drew, Eric, Jake, Joey and Logan; one step-great grandson Andrew; one brother Terry Callender (Tina) of Wamego, KS; three sisters: Donna Rippe (Mike) of Tecumseh, KS, Patty Minge (Gary) of Hanover, KS and Bonnie Luehring (Russ) of Hanover, KS; other family and friends.
Sharon was preceded in death by her husband, Marshall “Bud” Bates on December 12, 2008; and her parents Walter and Hazel Callender.
A Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 14, 2022 at Gude Mortuary in Nebraska City, NE with Fr. Thomas Schultes officiating. Burial will follow at Wyuka Cemetery in Nebr. City.
The family will greet friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Wed. (4/13) at the mortuary.
