Ruby L. Nocita, age 94 of Lincoln, NE (formerly Nebr. City) passed away early January 2, 2024 at The Monarch in Lincoln, NE. Ruby resided in Nebraska City until moving to Lincoln in May of 2014 to be closer to her family.
Ruby Louella Nocita was born on February 26, 1929 in Decatur, NE; the daughter of Frank Willard and Edna Esther (Payton) Gunsolley. She attended school in Plattsmouth, NE.
She married Lewis E. Eaton on December 23, 1946 in Hiawatha, KS and to this union five children were born: Lewis, Karen, Janet, Cindy and Traci. He preceded her in death on May 31, 1978. Ruby later married Dr. Salvatore “Sam” Joseph Nocita on September 27, 1986 in Nebraska City, NE and her family grew with the addition of his children: Joe, Cheryl and Steve. Sam preceded her in death on September 29, 2013.
Ruby worked various jobs over the years including helping her husband Lewis at the former Eatons Bar in Union, NE, and helping her husband Doc Nocita in his Dental Office. Ruby also worked as the Manager at the former Tober’s Clothing Store in Nebraska City and at Martin Jewelry in Nebr. City. She was a member of the Quilters Guild, and she loved playing Bridge.
She is survived by her children: Karen Eaton of LaVista, NE, Janet Briscoe, Cindy Daffer and Traci Washburn (Brant) all of Lincoln, NE, Joe Nocita (Mary Sue) of Omaha, NE, Cheryl Wirth (Jim) of Nebr. City, NE and Steve Nocita (Jo) of Elkhorn, NE; 10 grandchildren: Kristin Holdcroft (Bryan), Jenni Eubanks (Christian), Jessica Samuelson (Matt), Ryan Meredith (Brandi), Taylor Washburn, Sarah Washburn, Reagan Washburn, Jennifer Weis (Lee), Alan Wirth (Megan) and Fr. Brian Wirth; 16 great-grandchildren and three sisters: Helen Booton of Blair, NE, Shirley Masten of San Antonio, TX and Sharon Griffin of Highlands Ranch, CO; other family and friends.
In addition to her husbands, Ruby was preceded in death by her son Lewis LeRoy Eaton, great-grandson Owen, and siblings: Betty Bethards, Francis Perrlet, Willard Gunsolley and Linda Gunsolley.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 6, 2024 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Nebr. City with Fr. Brian Wirth celebrating the Mass. Burial will follow at Wyuka Cemetery in Nebr. City.
The family will greet friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Friday (1/5) at Gude Mortuary in Nebr. City. A Prayer Service will be held at 7:00 p.m.
Memorials may be given to St. Mary’s Catholic Church or for Masses for Ruby.
