Roy W. Chaney, age 82 of Nebraska City, NE passed away on Thursday, November 11, 2021 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Nebr. City.
Roy William Chaney was born on December 27, 1938 in Nebraska City, NE; the son of Paul Allan and Louise (Childers) Chaney. He grew up and attended school in Nebraska City, graduating from Nebraska City High School with the Class of 1956.
On August 19, 1957, Roy entered the United States Army and proudly served his country until his honorable discharge on August 18, 1960. He was united in marriage to Glorianna Howell on July 3, 1958 in Nebraska City and to this union two children were born: Kelly and Todd.
Roy worked for F&B Constructors for some 20 years. He also worked at the former Central Beverage Company in Nebraska City as office manager. He was a member of the American Legion, the Eagles, the Elks and the V.F.W. He was also a former member of the Nebraska City Volunteer Fire Department.
He is survived by his wife Gloria Chaney of Nebr. City; children: Kelly Boan and husband Randy and Todd Chaney and wife Kris all of Nebr. City; five grandsons: Chad Abbott (Brandi), Cody Abbott, Tyler Chaney, Trevor Chaney and Jesse Boan (Carla); three great-grandchildren: Talon Abbott, Brycen Maggert and Madison Abbott; siblings: Dale Chaney (Janice) of Percival, IA, Tony Chaney (June) of Nebr. City, Pat Chaney (Carol) of Nebr. City and Jake Chaney (Teri) of Nebr. City; sister-in-law Ann Chaney of Nebr. City; nieces, nephews and other family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a stillborn sister Mitzi Terese and brothers Jim Chaney and Paul “Pudge” Chaney.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 17, 2021 at Gude Mortuary in Nebr. City with Fr. Michael McCabe officiating. Military Honors will be conducted at the mortuary immediately following the service conducted by the Nebr. Army National Guard Funeral Honors Detail. The services will be live streamed on on Gude Funeral Homes Facebook Page.
The family will greet friends on Tuesday, (11/16) from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the mortuary.
Memorials may be given to the Nebr. City Volunteer Fire Dept. or the Nebr. City Fire Museum.
