Robert John Lechner

Robert J. Lechner, age 55 of Nebraska City passed away on Tuesday, March 8, 2022 at Bergan Mercy Hospital in Omaha, NE.

Robert “Bob” John Lechner was born on September 7, 1966 in Hamburg, IA; the son of Robert Mark and Carolyn Mary (Kreifels) Lechner.  He attended Lourdes Central Catholic where he graduated with the Class of 1984.

On September 4, 1987, he was united in marriage to Debbie A. Owen at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Nebraska City and to this union two sons were born:  Robbie and Tyler.

Most recently, Bob worked for the Nebraska City Street Department.  He began working there in 2001.  He had previously worked at Farmers COOP and for ACI Industries in Auburn, NE.  Bob was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and served on St. Mary’s Cemetery Board.  Old cars were a favorite hobby of Bob’s and he was a member of the Slo Rollers Car Club of NW Missouri at Rock Port, MO.

Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife Debbie Lechner of Nebr. City; sons:  Robbie Lechner (Sarah) of Nebr. City and Tyler Lechner (fiancé Abbie Radenslaben) of Lincoln, NE; his four grandchildren:  Hannelore, Jayson, Robbie Mark and Kinsley; siblings:  Juli Lechner, Ron Lechner (Kathy) and Janelle Lechner all of Nebr. City; brothers-in-law:  Steve Owen (Dee) of Farragut, IA and Randy Owen (Lora Lea) of Hamburg, IA; nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Carolyn Lechner and father and mother-in-law, Charles and Nancy Owen.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 12, 2022 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Nebr. City with Fr. Tom Schultes celebrating the Mass.  Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Nebr. City.

The family will greet friends from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Friday (3/11) at St. Mary’s Catholic Church followed by a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. 

Memorials may be given to the Nebraska City Food Pantry or St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
