Rita Sears Logan Obituary

Loving wife, Rita Ann (Sears) Logan, passed away on December 16, 2023 at her home in Nebraska City, NE.

Rita was born on November 17, 1953 in Pawnee City, NE; the fourth child of nine born to Charles Edwin and Marie (Conradt) Sears of rural Cook, NE.  She used her status as the “Middle Child” with a twinkle and a wink of her eye (which she never lost) to get to do things the “3 older girls” did, or to be a child with the “3 little girls”.  She loved her two brothers, and she and Dan were alike souls, getting into good trouble and mischief.  Later in life, Rita lived in Gulf Shores, AL, where she resided for 30 years.  When her brother Tom bought a second home there, she welcomed him and his family, and all her siblings, her parents and in-laws.

Rita’s two sons, Patrick John and Russell Jay, were born of her marriage to John Hayes (deceased).  Patrick passed away on July 3, 2018, in Foley, AL.  Russ blessed her with three grandchildren:  Macie (Kody Dickes) Hayes of Ashland, NE, Hayden Hayes of Papillion, NE and Pennie Hayes of Hastings, NE and a great-granddaughter McKenzie Renee Dickes.

Rita married Robert (Bobby Lee) Logan on March 17, 1986, at Steinhart Lodge in Nebraska City, NE.  During their early years of marriage, they explored living in interesting places in the United States, including the Loess Hills of the Iowa Bluffs, Jackson Hole, WY, Santa Barbara, CA, Napa, CA, Atlanta, GA and ultimately settling in Gulf Shores, AL for 30 years. They opened a coffee house “The Gulf Coast Coffee Merchants”. During those years they enjoyed sharing good coffee, musicians, and their food faire of Panini’s and Hummingbird Cake.

Rita spent 20 years as Account Manager at Sugar Sands Reality, where she proudly earned her Real Estate License.  She loved every annual seven sister reunion at various locations around the United States.  Rita and Bobby moved back home to Nebraska in October 2022, to be closer to their families and enjoy family outings and events.

Rita leaves behind her husband Bobby; her son Russ; grandchildren and great-granddaughter as well as her sisters:  Lois Rosenthal (Ken) of Johnson, NE, Pat Lipps (Mike Devine) of Dixon, IL; Jan Pettus (Jordan) of Solon, IA, Charlotte Bowen (Greg) of Humboldt, NE, Marilyn Mannschreck (Eldon) of Syracuse, NE and Liz Fox (Tim) of Tecumseh, NE; brother Tom Sears (Bev) of Hiawatha, KS; sister-in-law Sarah Sears of Sterling, NE; her and Bobby’s nephew Jon Logan and wife Amy and their sons Nick and Brock.  She is also survived by many nieces and nephews and their families; cousins and friends, all of whom loved her and were loved by her.

She was preceded in death by her son Patrick, her parents, father and mother-in-law:  Richard and Hermina (Bauer) Logan, brother Daniel J. Sears, brother and sister-in-law:  Bill and Dede Logan, nephew Mark Logan and husband John Hayes.

A Memorial Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 23, 2023 at St. Benedict’s Catholic Church in Nebr. City with Fr. Doug Daro celebrating the Mass.  Burial will follow at Wyuka Cemetery in Nebraska City.
