Richard Rex York, 76, of Randolph, IA, passed away on Sunday, December 7, 2025 in Omaha.
Richard, lovingly referred to by Rex, was born on February 12, 1949 in Shenandoah, IA, the son of Richard “Dick” and Mary “Kay” (Roscoe) York. He attended school in Farragut, graduating from Farragut High School with the class of 1967. He then went on to Southeast Community College (formerly Milford) where he graduated with a certification in welding. He had a passion for welding and was a perfectionist when it came to his welds. He worked at Eaton’s transmission as a toolmaker for some 30 years, retiring in 2015. He also worked in farming, mainly raising hogs. In his younger years, Rex and his boys were active in the Fremont County Fair, taking first place ribbons with the hogs he raised.
He was a loving father to his boys: John and David.
Rex was united in marriage to Marilyn (Marshall) Van Horn on March 17, 2018 in George, IA. The two shared over seven years together, enjoying country western line dancing and listening to country music. Rex also enjoyed writing poetry.
He is survived by his wife, Marilyn York of Randolph, IA; sons: John York of Cherokee, IA and David York of Atlantic, IA and their families; siblings: Mike York of Clarinda, IA, Patricia Beggs of Arizona, and Perry (Dana) York of Lincoln, NE; brother-in-law Alan Marshall; step-son Troy Van Horn and his family; other family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dick and Kay York, and nephew, Andy York.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 11, 2025 at the Rash-Gude Funeral Home in Hamburg, IA. The family will greet friends prior to the service from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow in the Randolph Cemetery in Randolph.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Randolph Fire and Rescue.
