Richard “Rick” T. Haughton, age 71 of rural Riverton, IA passed away on March 21, 2023 at his home.
Richard Thomas Haughton was born on May 11, 1951 in Tecumseh, NE; the son of Everett and Vivian L. (Kroll) Haughton. He attended school in Hamburg and then entered the United States Army on November 1, 1968 and proudly served his country until his honorable discharge on October 22, 1971.
On February 4, 1991, Rick was united in marriage to Renee’ Lynn Powers in Hamburg, IA. Over the years, Rick worked as a truck driver and construction worker. He drove truck for Roy Carpenter and owned his own construction company.
He is survived by his wife Renee’ Haughton of rural Riverton, IA; children: Kelly Marie Peters (Matt) of Hamburg, IA, Michael Eugene Haughton of Hamburg, IA and Clinton Gabriel “Gabe” Cook (Crystal) of Council Bluffs, IA; eight grandchildren: Jordan Bennett, Nikolas Peters, Lilly Peters, Clayton Cook, Arielle Cook, Brian Ashcraft, Sage Parrott and Robby Summerville; two special grandchildren: Parker Myers and Makenzie Myers; two great-grandchildren: Rory Bennett and Leo Hawkins; three siblings: Judy Clark (Bob) of Riverton, IA, Robert Haughton of Braymer, MO and Everett Joe Haughton of Hamburg, IA; other family and friends.
Rick was preceded in death by his parents, twin brothers: Donny and Daniel, three sisters: Janet Marie Haughton, Carol Leppert and Debbie Haughton and sister-in-law Shirley Haughton.
The family will greet friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 29, 2023 at the Rash-Gude Funeral Home in Hamburg.
A Private Family Service and Military Honors will be held for Rick at Mt. Olive Cemetery, southeast of Hamburg.
Memorials may be given to the American Lung Association or the Humane Society.
