Richard Albert Dovey

      Richard A. Dovey, age 89 of Nebraska City, NE passed away on Saturday, December 24, 2022 at the Ambassador in Nebr. City.

      Richard Albert Dovey was born on October 10, 1933 in Worthington, MN; the son of Charles Isaac and Libbie June (Levine) Dovey.  On July 27, 1953, he joined the United States Air Force and proudly served his country until his honorable discharge on July 5, 1957.  Richard received the National Defense Service Medal, the Good Conduct Medal and the Army Occupation Medal.

      When he returned from his military service, Richard attended Barber School in Omaha, NE and served an apprenticeship in Grand Island, NE.  He received his Barber’s License in 1959.  He owned and operated Dovey’s Barbershop on the corner of 7th St. and Central Avenue for many years.  He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, the American Legion Post #8 (65 yr. member) and the Eagles F.O.E. #968 (since 1963). Richard also served as part of the Air Force Reserve at Offutt AFB until his retirement on October 10, 1993, achieved the rank of Technical Sergeant and received Longevity Service Medal (2 oak leaf clusters) and Air Reserve Meritorious Service Medal  (3 oak leaf clusters).

      Richard is survived by his nephews and niece:  Chuck Ahrens (Nicky) of Las Vegas, NV, Mike Ahrens (Dorena) of Omaha, NE and Angie Ahrens of Omaha, NE; one great nephew Christopher Ahrens; sister-in-law Sheryl Manning of Denver, CO; other family and friends.

      He was preceded in death by his parents; sister June Ahrens in 2018 and brother Mitch Dovey in 2020.

      A Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, December 30, 2022 at Gude Mortuary in Nebr. City with Rev. Tom Osborne officiating.  Burial will follow at Wyuka Cemetery in Nebr. City with Military Honors conducted by the Offutt Air Force Base Funeral Honors Detail. 

      The family will greet friends from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Friday, prior to the service.

      Memorials may be given to the First Presbyterian Church in Nebr. City, NE.
