Randall "Randy" R. Rucker

Randall R. “Randy” Rucker, age 68 of Syracuse, NE passed away on Tuesday, July 28, 2026 at Bryan East Medical Center in Lincoln, NE surrounded by his loving family.

Randall Rae Rucker was born on October 5, 1957 in Nebraska City, NE; the son of Perry C. and Helen K. (Payne) Rucker. He attended school in Sidney, IA and later graduated from the Sidney High School with the Class of 1975.  Following his graduation, he attended Peru State College, Peru, NE.  He later transferred to Beuna Vista University, Storm Lake, IA where he graduated in 1981.  Shortly after receiving his degree from Beuna Vista, he successfully passed the Certified Public Accountant (CPA) exam.

He was united in marriage to Michelle R. “Shelly” Storey on September 2, 1978 in Sidney, IA and to this union two sons were born: Jacob and Perry.

Randy had a great love of baseball.  He played competitive softball for many years, and he and Shelly played on Co-Ed teams together as well.  He was a wrestling coach for many years and coached both Jake and Perry throughout their youth and into high school.  Shelly and Randy continued to follow wrestling throughout their lives; following their children and grandchildren.  He made many connections with kids through the years of wrestling, and touched many lives. 

He and Shelly loved golf!   One of their great joys was playing golf and traveling to play in couples tournaments together.  Randy and Shelly also loved the Iowa Hawkeyes, especially Hawkeye Wrestling.  Randy loved sports and most of his hobbies and enjoyment came from either participating, coaching, or watching sports.  Randy and Shelly were the love of each other lives.  They did everything together.  He was a wonderful father, grandfather, brother, coach, and friend.  

He is survived by his sons: Jacob Rucker of Fremont, NE and Perry Rucker (Amanda) of Louisville, NE; five grandchildren: Kade Rucker, Kora Rucker, Jackson Rucker, Lincoln Rucker and Cassidy Rucker; a sister Teri Gibbons (Keith) of Papillion, NE; father-in-law Ralph Storey of Murray, NE; brother-in-law John Storey (Linda) of Lake of the Ozarks, MO; sister-in-law Stephanie Storey (Sherri) of Independence, MO; other family and many friends.

Randy was preceded in death by his beloved wife Shelly Rucker on December 12, 2025 as well as his parents.

A Celebration of Life Gathering will be held on Sunday; August 9, 2026 beginning at 2:00 p.m. at Pin High Clubhouse and Grill located at Table Creek Golf Course west of Nebraska City.
