Pauline Constance (Sasse) Kreifels

Pauline C. Kreifels, age 91 of Nebraska City, NE passed away on Friday, March 11, 2022 at Bryan West Medical Center in Lincoln, NE.

Pauline Constance Kreifels was born on October 13, 1930 in Nebraska City, NE; the daughter of Anton and Margaret (Kuwitzky) Sasse.  She grew up and attended school in Nebraska City, graduating from Nebraska City High School with the Class of 1948.  Pauline then attended St. Catherine’s Nursing School in Omaha, NE where she received her Nursing Degree in May of 1952. 

Pauline was united in marriage to Kenneth Martin Kreifels on September 29, 1952 at St. Benedict’s Catholic Church in Nebraska City and to this union five children were born:  Kathy, Tim, Dick, Mary and Pat.

In addition to raising her family, Pauline worked at St. Mary’s Hospital for 30 years as an RN, Director of Nursing and Assistant Administrator.  She retired in 1992.  She was a member of St. Benedict’s Catholic Church where she was the organist for 30 years and was a member of Christian Mothers and Altar Society.  She also belonged to the Plattsmouth Deanery, Legion of Mary, Apostolate of Suffering, Auxiliary of Pink Sisters, Association of Miraculous Medal, and Association of the Infant of Prague.  Pauline headed the AARP Blood Clinics, and was an Honorary Graduate of Lourdes Central Catholic.

Those left to cherish her memory include her children:  Kathy Gawart (John) of Nebr. City, Tim Kreifels (Jackie) of Atlantic, IA, Dick Kreifels (Jane) of Lincoln, NE, Mary Vodra (John) of Stevens Point, WI and Pat Mettler (Rich) of Lincoln, NE; 14 grandchildren and 36 great-grandchildren; brother Ed Sasse (Cleora) of Nebr. City and sister Madeline Sasse of Riverton, WY; other family and friends.

Pauline was preceded in death by her husband, Ken Kreifels, on Sept. 26, 2018; her parents; sister Mary Jane Clark (Jim); daughter-in-law Celeste Kreifels and brother-in-law Richard Sasse.

A Memorial Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 9, 2022 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Nebr. City with Fr. Ryan Kaup celebrating the Mass.  Burial will follow at St. Benedict’s Cemetery in Nebr. City.

The family will greet friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Friday (4/8) at Gude Mortuary in Nebr. City.  A Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m.

Memorial may be given to St. Benedict’s Catholic Church.
