Patricia Kilp Obituary

Patricia Mary Kilp (Patty) was born on May 21, 1953, in Neenah, WI; the daughter of Richard Gregory and Marie Agnes (Thibedeau) Kilp.  Soon after her birth she moved with her family to Tonawanda, New York.  Patty had the blessings of a wonderful Catholic upbringing.  She attended St. Amelia’s Catholic School for grades 1-3 and then St. Joseph’s Catholic School in North Tonawanda for grades 4-8.  Moving again with family to Aiken, South Carolina, she attended St. Angelia Academy and graduated from High School in 1971.

Patty’s interest in the medical field led her to pursue a Licensed Practical Nursing degree.  She loved serving the needs of others, caring for the sick and injured.  Moving to Denver, CO and then to Memphis, TN working in numerous hospitals she then, after 20 years as a LPN, went back to school to secure an Associate of Applied Science Degree at Shelby State Community College in Memphis.  On September 8, 1994, Patty successfully passed the NCLEX (National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses) and continued to share her skills as a Critical Care nurse.  Nursing was her life!  Her dedication and love for her medical vocation brought her much joy.  One of the highlights of her nursing career was working at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis.

Unfortunately, her love for nursing came to a sudden end on January 30, 2003, when she suffered a massive stroke.  Patty was comatose for six weeks and suffered paralysis to her total right side.  She became wheelchair bound with a limited capacity to speak for the remaining 21 years of her life.

She bravely accepted her restrictions and strove to become, once again, as independent as possible.  She was lovingly cared for by her parents until they passed away in 2015 and 2016.  Then, on May 13, 2016, Patty took up residence with her sister, Sister Kathleen and the Franciscan Sisters in Nebraska City.  Recently diagnosed with Stage 4 terminal lung cancer, Patty entered Eternal Life on February 6, 2024, during the 3:00 p.m. Divine Mercy Hour at the Motherhouse of the Franciscan Sisters in Nebraska City, NE.

She is survived by her four siblings:  Bill (Trena) of Memphis, TN; Dr. Jeanne Kilp of Boston, MA; Sister Kathleen, O.S.F. of Nebraska City, NE; and Mary Miles of St. Francisville, LA; four nieces:  Laura, Lisa, Katie and Lauren; one nephew Trent; five grandnieces and one grandnephew.

Patty was preceded in death by her grandparents Reginald and Lucille Kilp, John and Agnes Thibedeau; parents, Dick and Tibby Kilp, a baby brother, Gregory, Franciscan Capuchin uncles:  Father Vianney and Father Valentine Thibedeau, Aunt Pat (Mike) Ignat, Aunt Mary Lou (Jim) Rhyner and her brother-in-law, Bruce Miles.
