Nancy Jo Hume

Nancy Jo Hume, age 69 of Tabor, IA passed away on Saturday, April 11, 2026 at Jennie Edmundson Hospital in Council Bluffs, IA.

Nancy was born on January 28, 1957 in Lexington, MO; the daughter of James E. and Alice M. (Wallace) Borders. She attended school in Liberty, MO and when she was 14, the family moved from Missouri to Tabor, IA.  She then attended school in Tabor and graduated from Fremont Mills High School with the Class of 1975.  After high school, Nancy attended the Nebraska College of Business in Omaha for two years.

On June 16, 1978, Nancy was united in marriage to David J. Hume at the Congregational Church in Tabor, IA and to this union two sons were born: Andrew and James.  Nancy was a member of the Tabor Christian Church in Tabor, IA where she was baptized on May 20, 1982.

In addition to raising her family, Nancy worked as a licensed Abstractor for Bankers Title for some 17 years.  She also owned and operated Nancy’s Next Door Store in Tabor. 

She is survived by her husband of nearly 48 years, David Hume of Tabor, IA; sons: Andrew Hume of Navarre, FL and James Hume of Tabor, IA; eleven grandchildren: Nikolas Hume, Kylie Hume, Elisa Hume, Mya Hume, Maddalynn Hume, McKenna Hume, Jaxxon Hume, Abel Hume, Jesse Gregg, Alexander Gregg and Lottie Hume; bonus granddaughter McKenna Johnson, mother Alice Borders of Atlantic, IA; sister Marsha Borders of Atlantic, IA; brother Scott Borders (Cindi Godden) of Omaha, NE; mother-in-law Patsy Hume of Thurman, IA; sisters-in-law: Jennifer Kyndsen (Paul) of Council Bluffs, IA and Debora Hume (Gary Shamblen) of Council Bluffs, IA; other family and friends.

Nancy was preceded in death by her father James Borders on May 25, 2014 and her father-in-law Jerris “Jerry” Hume on May 25, 2021.

A Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 16, 2026 at Tabor Christian Church in Tabor, IA with Pastors Jack Porter and Roger Charley officiating.  Burial will follow at Grandview Cemetery, rural Sidney, IA.

The family will greet friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Wed. (4/15) at the Tabor Christian Church.

Memorials may be given to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
