Mildred M. Schreiter, age 92 of Nebraska City, passed away July 25 at Morton Place in Nebraska City. She was born at her parents’ home near Paul, Nebraska on October 19, 1926 to Martin and Helen (Heng) Kreifels. She attended rural school and graduated from St. Bernard’s Academy in 1943. After summer training at Peru State College she taught at rural Mohawk school no. 73 for two years. On June 5, 1946 she married Robert F. Schreiter at St. Joseph’s Church in Paul. He preceded her in death in 1997.
Mildred was a homemaker, and maintained a large garden and loved growing flowers. She was a longtime member of the Christian Mothers and Altar Society at St. Benedict’s Church in Nebraska City. She also served for a time as president of the rural Sunnyside school district no. 12.
She is survived by her children, Rev. Robert, of Chicago, IL; Thomas (Susan) of Clear Lake City, TX; Mary Liesemeyer (Thomas) of Nebraska City; Jean Taylor of Bulverde, TX; James (Marta) of Wimberly, TX; and John (Diane) of Nebraska City; twelve grandchildren, sixteen great-grand children, and two great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by her brothers Vernon of Nebraska City; and James (Patricia) of Lincoln; and in-laws Alvin Czeschin, Pauline Kreifels, Darlene Kreifels, Rosita Kreifels, and Patricia Kreifels.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband; brothers Donald, Kenneth, Harold (Bud), Mark, Marvin and Larry; and sister Shirley Czeschin. She was also preceded by in-laws George and Loretta Petr, Arnold and Helen Bremer, Virgil and Evelyn Mitzner, Theresa Kreifels, and Norma Jean Kreifels; and son-in-law, William Taylor.
The funeral of Mildred Schreiter will be held on Tuesday, July 30 at 10:30 AM at St. Benedict’s Church in Nebraska City, with the Rev. Robert Schreiter presiding. Burial will follow in St. Benedict’s Cemetery. A rosary will be said on Monday evening July 29 at 7:00 PM at the Gude Mortuary in Nebraska City. The family will also greet relatives and friends starting at 6:00 PM. Gude Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
