Michael Allen Crunk was born on July 23, 1953 in Fort Campbell KY to Lt. Col. Louis J. and Laverne Crunk.
He was a well-traveled son of a Lt. Col in the United States Army, particularly enjoying his time in Augsburg Germany before settling in Nebraska City where he graduated from Nebraska City High School in 1971. Mike graduated from UNL in 1975 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture. He was united in marriage to Sharon M. Schmitz on June 18,1976 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Nebraska City, NE. Mike spent several years farming and working for Otoe Co Roads Dept. before continuing his education, completing a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, and becoming a first-time father in January of 1985. Mike was a proud father to Logan M., and Jillian C. Crunk.
Mike was an avid book reader, enjoyed hunting, and spending time with family on vacations. He enjoyed several adventures canoeing and camping in Canada with his family and friends. Since retirement Mike has enjoyed life at home with his wife watching his four granddaughters grow up and waiting for the next best hallmark movies to come out.
Mike was a longtime member of the Otoe Co wildlife club, serving many years as secretary, and well as a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Mike and Sharon were part of friend’s card club for the last 44 years, who recently took an 11-day Alaskan cruise together.
Mike is survived by his wife of 46 years; Sharon Crunk of Nebraska City, NE, Son Logan Crunk (Jessica) of Nebraska City, NE, Daughter Jill Owen (Kyle) of Nebraska City, NE; 4 granddaughters: Brooke, Briar, Breanne, and Hailey; siblings Don (Sharon) of Nebr. City, Ron (Chris) of Nebr. City, Cindy Dancosse of Olathe, KS, Doug of Phoenix, AZ, Jeff (Leah) of Nebr. City and George (Helen) of Nebr. City; nieces, nephews, and other family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his brother-in-law Bob Dancosse.
Mike entered eternal life on September 20, 2022 at Methodist Hospital in Omaha Nebraska. Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and let the perpetual light shine upon him.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, September 27, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Nebraska City, NE. Fr. Thomas Schultes will celebrate the Mass. Burial will be at a later date.
The family will greet friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Monday (9/26) at Gude Mortuary in Nebraska City. A Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m.
Memorials may be given to St. Mary's Catholic Church or Morton James Public Library.
