Mary Lorraine (Brandts) Hayden

Lorraine Hayden, age 82 of Lake Waconda (rural Union, NE) passed away on Tuesday, January 24, 2023 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Nebraska City.

Mary Lorraine Hayden was born on August 1, 1940 in Larchwood, IA ; the daughter of Russell William and Josephine Agatha (Castle) Brandts.   She attended school and graduated from Sacred Heart High School in Omaha, NE with the Class of 1958.

She was united in marriage to Boyd Charles Hayden on August 6, 1960 in Omaha, NE and to this union five children were born:  Candace, Boyd, Jr., Myrna Jo, Leo and Michelle.

Lorraine was employed for some 25 years at National Car Rental as their Airport Manager at Stapleton International Airport in Denver, CO. 

She is survived by her children:  Candace Grundman (Dale) of Union, NE, Boyd Hayden, Jr. of Thornton, CO, Myrna Jo Vasa (Brad) of Nebr. City, NE, Leo Hayden (Elizabeth) of Corpus Christi, TX and Michelle Horton (Bryan) of East Moline, IL; 15 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, a brother Vincent Brandts (Karen) of Sioux Falls, SD, sisters:  Margaret “Cookie” Clapper of Carter Lake, IA, Nancy Bergmann (John) of Plattsmouth, NE and Kathleen Brandts of Carter Lake, IA; other extended family and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband Boyd on May 19, 2012, a brother Russell Brandts as well as her parents.

A Memorial Mass will be held Saturday (1/28) at 10:30 a.m. at St. Benedict’s Catholic Church in Nebr. City with Fr. Ryan Kaup celebrating the Mass.   Inurnment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Nebr. City.

A rosary will be recited at 6:00 p.m. Friday (1/27) at Gude Mortuary in Nebraska City.

Memorials may be given to the family for future designation.
