Mary Jane (Hinrichs) Kellogg was born April 12, 1932. She passed away March 22, 2023.
Mary Jane was the daughter of Joy and Laura (Lyon) Hinrichs. She was born and raised in Nebraska City. Mary graduated from Nebraska City High School in 1949. She was Valedictorian of her class. After attending Peru State College she began teaching 5th Grade in Louisville, NE.
On August 22, 1951, Mary married Sam Kellogg while he was on a three day pass, before heading to Korea. To this union two daughters were born: Jane Lynne and Elizabeth (Beth) Ann. In 1972, Mary began her career as the Librarian for Nebraska City Junior High and worked there until her retirement in 1997.
Mary was involved in numerous activities in the Nebraska City Community, but the most important to her was the Nebraska City High School Alumni Foundation. Other activities included PEO, United Methodist Church Organizations, American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Disabled American Veterans, Purple Heart Auxiliary and Eastern Star.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Sam, parents, infant sister Elizabeth, brother Henry Hinrichs, sister-in-law Susan Hinrichs, brothers-in-law: Van Fletcher and Gene Gillette, nephew Kent Fletcher and companion for 15 years, Whoopie Landis.
Mary is survived by daughters: Jane (Tom) Brust of Orlando, FL and Beth (David) Lueth of Percival, IA; siblings: Katie Fletcher of Ft. Collins, CO, Dr. Jon (Donna) Hinrichs of Lincoln, NE, sisters-in-law: Nora Hinrichs of Lincoln, NE and Lora Gillette of Escondido, CA; granddaughters: Laura Lueth, Lacey (Thomas) Kiefer, Ellen (Trey) Dutton, Joanna (Kevin) Merideth; great-grandchlildren: Avie Jane Dutton, Samuel Oak and Asa Chisomo Merideth; other family and friends.
A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 27, 2023 at the First United Methodist Church in Nebr. City. Burial will follow at Wyuka Cemetery in Nebr. City.
The family will greet friends from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Sunday (3/26) at Gude Mortuary in Nebr. City.
Memorials may be given to the First United Methodist Church or the Memorial Building Renovation Fund.
