Martin Henry Frank Goracke

Martin Henry Frank Goracke, age 105 of Hamburg, IA passed away on October 23, 2023 at Morton Senior Living in Nebr. City, NE.

Martin was born July 15, 1918 in St. Mary, Nebraska; the son of Frank Mary (Hupka) Goracke, Jr.  He grew up on the family farm east of St. Mary, NE.  He left the family farm at age 14 to start a life as a farmer.  He was devoted to caring for “God’s” land.  He met Florence Pauline Dovel, and they were married in Hamburg, IA at St. Mary’s Catholic Church on August 1, 1939.  Martin lost his beloved wife June 4, 2013 after almost 74 years of marriage.  They both remained members of St. Mary’s Catholic Church their entire lives.

Martin received many awards and much recognition for his ability at working the land.  He was also very active at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, serving in many areas including Church Trustee and ringing the bell at the church for many years.  If you arrived early for Mass, chances are, you would find Martin already there.

He is survived by his daughter Lois Ann Goracke and her husband Richard Goode of Pueblo, CO; four grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren; other family and friends.

In addition to his wife, Martin was preceded in death by his son Larry Goracke, stillborn son Frank Goracke, sister Irene Krontz, four brothers:  Leonard, Robert, Paul and Clemence Goracke and two grandsons.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 28, 2023 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Hamburg, IA.  Interment will be at Mt. Zion (Utterback) Cemetery, east of Hamburg, IA, where he will be laid to rest by his beloved wife Florence.

The family will greet friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Friday (10/27) at the Rash-Gude Funeral Home in Hamburg, IA.  The Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Hamburg.
