Marlene E. Volkmer, age 82 of Auburn, NE (formerly Tecumseh and Nebr. City) passed away on Jan. 6, 2022 at her home.
She was born on Dec. 10, 1939 in Dunbar, NE; the daughter of Lyman and Ruth (Petersen) Roos. She attended school and graduated from the Dunbar High School with the Class of 1957. Following her graduation, she worked in Nebraska City as a secretary until her marriage.
She was united in marriage to Keith J. Volkmer on Sept. 1, 1960 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Nebr. City; and to this union four children were born: Colleen, Kent, Brian and Amy.
Marlene was a secretary, bookkeeper and insurance agent-among other things-and worked alongside her husband Keith at American Family Insurance in Tecumseh, NE. The couple retired in 1999 and moved to Auburn in 2000 to be closer to their grandchildren, Sarah and Kevin. Marlene was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Auburn, NE and prior to their move, St. Andrew Catholic Church in Tecumseh.
She is survived by her four children: Colleen Volkmer and special friend Loren Entz of Brownville, NE, Kent Volkmer and wife Lorie of Auburn, NE, Brian Volkmer of Nebr. City and Amy Borrenpohl and husband John of Johnson, NE; grandchildren: Sarah Zak and husband Gerard, Kevin Volkmer and wife Chelsea; great-grandchildren: Jameson Zak and Madeline Volkmer; sisters: Marjorie Coble of Valentine, NE, Kathleen Petersen of Cheyenne, WY and Diane Schomerus and husband Ron of Nebr. City; other family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband Keith on July 18, 2018, a sister Joanne Ryans as well as her parents.
Funeral Services will be held Monday (Jan. 10) at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church (Paul) southwest of Nebr. City; burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will greet friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Sunday at Gude Mortuary in Nebr, City followed by a rosary/prayer service at 7 p.m.
Memorials may be given to Southeast Nebraska Cancer Memorial Garden-Humboldt, NE, Catholic Social Services or Otoe County Historial Society-Syracuse, NE.
