Lula M. Carlson passed away on Wednesday; January 4, 2023 at St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Lincoln, NE.
Lula Mae Carlson was born on July 19, 1938 at rural Red Oak, IA; the daughter of Frederick William “Fred” and Beulah Elizabeth (Smith) Knittel. She attended school and graduated from Stennett Consolidated High School at Stennett, IA with the Class of 1956.
She was united in marriage to Paul E. Carlson on September 20, 1956 in Plattsmouth, NE and to this union five children were born: Russell, William, Kenneth, Pamela and Valerie. Paul and Lula purchased their home in Nebraska City in 1970 and she remained in the home until her passing. In addition to raising her family, Lula began working at American Meter in 1969 where she held positions in the Proofing Room, Die Cast and as 2nd Shift Coordinating Supervisor. She retired in 2003.
Lula previously attended St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Johnson, NE and was a member of Toastmasters.
Those left to cherish her memory include her children: Russell Carlson of Nebr. City, William Carlson (Jennifer Talbert Carlson) of Olathe, CO, Kenneth Carlson of Nebr. City, Pamela Carlson of Nebr. City and Valerie Witte (Allen) of Johnson, NE; 13 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren; Eric [3], Jesse (Michelle) [2], LuvStarr-deceased [2], William [3}; Nicholas (Amanda) [3], Jerimiah (Ashley) [5], Elijah (U.S. Air Force), Mariah (Douglas), Crystal, Preston, Kolton, Skylar, Bobbi (Scott) [2], other family and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband on January 16, 1976, a granddaughter LuvStarr Adkins, siblings: Margaret Simpson, Doris Morris and Darwin “Bud” Knittel as well as her parents. She was lovingly referred to as “Mom” or “Grandma” by everyone she knew and will be remembered as someone who made a difference in her children’s lives and the lives of those she met!
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday; January 14, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at Gude Mortuary in Nebr. City; burial will follow in the Wyuka Cemetery at Nebr. City.
The family will greet friends from 5 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday (1/13) at Gude Mortuary.
