Louis "Mike" Miller

Mike Miller, age 79 of Nebraska City, NE passed away on Monday, October 13, 2025 at his home surrounded by his family.

Mike was born Louis Charles Michael Miller on August 4, 1946 in Ft. Leavenworth, KS; the son of Harry Eugene and Mollie Mae (Criswell) Miller.  The family later moved to Iowa where he attended school in Riverton and graduated from Farragut High School with the Class of 1964. 

He began working at American Meter in August of 1964.  His draft number came up shortly thereafter and he entered the United States Navy on October 4, 1965 and proudly served his country during the Vietnam War.  Mike was honorably discharged on August 11, 1969.

After returning home, he continued to work at American Meter, a job that spanned over 44 ½ years, until his retirement in January of 2009.  After retiring, Mike continued at American Meter as a Consultant.

On July 25, 1970, Mike was united in marriage to Debera Kaye Lowther at the Baptist Church in Union, NE and to this union two children were born:  Chad and April.

He was a member of the American Legion Post #8, where he served as Commander.  He also was a member of the V.F.W. and served on the Veterans Service Committee.  He was active in the American Legion Color Guard and was a member of the United Church of Christ in Farragut, IA.

Mike is survived by his wife of 55 years, Debera Miller of Nebr. City, NE; son Chad Miller of Nebr. City, NE and daughter April Ruiz (Michael) of Spotsylvania, VA; nine grandchildren:  Angelica Casey, Brooklyn Miller, Cayden Miller, Carson Miller, Joshua Ruiz, Julia Ruiz, Jeffrey Ruiz, Jacob Ruiz and Jilliana Ruiz; one great-grandson Dawson Casey; twin sister Cindy Council of Farragut, IA; other family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Tom Miller, an infant sister, brother-in-law Kelsey Council and sister-in-law: Barb Miller.

A Graveside Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 17, 2025 at Wyuka Cemetery in Nebr. City with Pastor Terry Weible officiating.  Military Honors will be conducted by the United States Navy Funeral Honors Detail and Talmage American Legion Post #246.

The family will greet friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Thurs. (10/16) at Gude Mortuary in Nebr. City. 

Memorials may be given to the Otoe County Veterans Van Fund.
