Louis M. Gaskill, age 89 of Nebraska City passed away on Feb. 8, 2021 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Nebraska City.
Louis was born on July 25, 1931 in Nebraska City; the son of Carl O. and Anna L. (Sedoris) Gaskill. He attended school in Nebraska City and graduated from the Nebraska City High School with the Class of 1948.
Shortly after his graduation, he entered the US Navy in 1950 where he honorably served until 1954.
He was united in marriage to Annette Lee Hunter on October 2, 1957 in Nebraska City.
Louis began his career in retail at the former Western Auto Store in Nebraska City where he worked for Rick Budd. He continued in the career when he began working with Gene Mercer at Mercer Hardware. After numerous years of helping others, he retired in 2008.
He was a long time member of the Nebraska City Volunteer Fire Dept., the Eagles, the Elks and American Legion Post #8.
He is survived by his wife of over 63 years, Annette Gaskill of Nebr. City; brother and sister in law Gary and Andrea Cullin of Nebr. City; nieces and nephews: Brad Meyer, Ann Meyer , David Meyer, Vikki Hull, Jeff Cullin, Terrie Kreifels, Lisa Chaney and Erin O’Brien; numerous great nieces and nephews, other family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister and brother in law Diana and Norris O’Brien; brother and sister in law Byron and Nancy Meyer and a nephew Mitch Meyer.
Graveside Memorial Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, April 5, 2021 at Wyuka Cemetery in Nebraska City with honors conducted by the United States Navy Funeral Honors Detail, the Talmage American Legion and the Nebraska City Volunteer Fire Department.
Memorials may be given to the Nebraska City Volunteer Fire Dept.
