LoRee (Miller) Baker

LoRee Baker, age 95 of Nebraska City, NE passed away on Thursday, June 25, 2026 at the Ambassador in Nebr. City.

She was born Ruth LoRee Miller on May 30, 1931 in Abilene, KS; the daughter of John Paul and Ruth Olive (Wheat) Miller. She grew up in Kansas and graduated from Blue Rapids High School with the Class of 1949.  LoRee then attended Kansas State University.  While at college, she met the love of her life, Harry J. Baker.  They were married on January 28, 1951 in Blue Rapids, KS and have shared over 75 years together.   Their marriage was blessed with four children:   Randall Jesse, Ross Allen, LoReeta Jo and Raymond Keith. 

In addition to raising the family and helping her husband with the veterinary clinic, LoRee worked for many years as a Realtor at Wellensiek Realty.  She was very active in the community and was a long-time member of the First United Methodist Church where she was involved in various capacities.  She was also a member the Jaycee Jaynes, the Opti-Misses, served as a 4H leader and was a Den Mother for Cub Scouts.

Those left to cherish her memory include her husband Dr. Harry Baker of Nebr. City, NE; children:  Ross Baker (Pamela), LoReeta Baker and Raymond Baker all of Nebr. City, NE; 8 grandchildren:  Tanner Paap, Chance Paap, Shasta Paap, Randi Meade (Shawn), Sierra Baker, Whitni Kostboth (Cory), Cole Baker (Faith), Whitney MacGregor (Slayden) and 13 great-grandchildren:  Aspen McCoy, Ava Crawford, Stryder Meade, Storm Meade, Timber Meade, Sycily Baker, Crew Baker, Colson Baker, Brooklynn Baker, Piper Kostboth, Harper Kostboth, Slayden MacGregor and Finn MacGregor; a sister Linda Brake (Jon) of Wamego, KS; nieces, nephews, other family and many friends.

LoRee was preceded in death by her son Randall Baker in 1960; grandson Jacob Paap, granddaughter Frankie Rae Baker and great-grandchild Hunter Baker; siblings: Howard Miller (Helen) and Virginia Sutton (Harold); brothers-in-law Firman Gladow and John Roche as well as her parents.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held Friday (July 3) at 11:00 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Nebraska City.  Inurnment will be in the Wyuka Cemetery in Nebraska City.  To honor LoRee, purple attire (her favorite color) is encouraged for the services and children are welcome and encouraged to attend.

Memorials may be given to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in her memory.
