Larry Warren Obituary

Larry L. Warren, age 79 of rural Thurman, IA passed away on Friday; July 29, 2022 at Jennie Edmundson Medical Center in Council Bluffs, IA.

Larry Lee Warren was born on January 17, 1943 at the Hamburg Hospital in Hamburg, IA; the son of Harry and Norma Lee (Callahan) Warren.   He attended school and graduated from the Hamburg High School with the Class of 1961.

Following his graduation from high school, he returned to the farm and helped his dad and uncle Tom Warren.  He later began working for TWA (Trans World Airlines) in Kansas City where he met his future wife Penny. 

Larry entered the U.S. Army on April 8, 1965 and after some ten months of service, he returned home for a short time and was united in marriage to Penelope Bea "Penny" Snapp on February 3, 1966.  Some two months later on April 15, 1966, he was honorably discharged from the Army due to his dad's serious health problems.  After his return home, he began a life long career of farming.  He enjoyed fishing, playing cards and telling stories about the good ol' days!

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Penny Warren of rural Thurman, IA; daughters: Lori Bea Burge (Kevin) of Riverton, IA and Ellie Mae Warren of Fairfax, MO; five grandchildren:  Zane Austin Burge, Jacob Adam Burge, Wyatt Andrew Burge, Ethan James Burge and Eryn Daniel Warren; niece Stacey Phillips of Kansas City, MO; other family and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his dad Harry in 1995 and mom Norma Lee in 2005, a grandson Adam Earl Warren (twin of Eryn) in 2000, uncle Tom Warren and his wife Marguerite.

Graveside Funeral Services will be held Friday (Aug. 5) at 10:00 a.m. at Mt. Zion Cemetery northeast of Hamburg, IA.  Complete military honors will be conducted by the Hamburg American Legion Post.

In honoring Larry's wishes, the casket will remain closed and no formal visitation will be held.

Memorials may be directed to the family.
