Kenneth R. “Kenny” Hauptman, age 88 of Nebraska City passed away on Wednesday; October 22, 2025 at the Ambassador in Nebraska City.
Kenneth Ralph Hauptman was born on May 18, 1937 at rural Nebraska City, NE; the son of Ralph Theodore and Mayme Gesina (Rietsch) Hauptman. He attended school at Pleasant Valley Country School. He later attended school in Julian and then attended the Nebraska City High School where he graduated with the Class of 1954.
He was united in marriage to Dorothy Mae Applegate on October 26, 1979 at Rock Port, MO. Dorothy preceded him in death on December 1, 2008.
He entered the U.S. Army on November 30, 1960 and was honorably discharged on November 29, 1962.
Kenny was a life-long farmer and he also hauled livestock for various farmers in the area. He was a member of American Legion Post #8 and the Eagles.
He is survived by his sisters: JoAnn Barry and husband Robert of Raymond, NE; Lucille Schiber of Union, NE; a step-daughter Dorothy Royal of Nebraska City; six step-grandchildren and numerous step great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
In addition to his wife Dorothy, he was preceded in death by a sister Barbara Jordan and brothers Alvin Hauptman and Theodore Hauptman, brother in law Ollie Schiber, as well as his parents.
Funeral Services will be held Tuesday (Oct. 28) at 10:00 a.m. at Gude Mortuary in Nebraska City; burial will follow in the Camp Creek Cemetery southeast of Nebraska City. Complete military services will be conducted by the Nebraska Army National Guard and Talmage American Legion Post.
Visitation will be held from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday and Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. until service time – all at Gude Mortuary.
