John Charles “Jack” Meek passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, December 6, 2022 in front of the fire, in his favorite chair.
Jack was born October 29, 1940 in Riverton, IA; the son of John E. and Pauline (Bennett) Meek. He graduated from Hamburg High School and went to barber school in Des Moines. He pursued his barber career, owning shops in Council Bluffs and Offutt Air Force Base.
In 1959, Jack met DarLynn “Pat” and they married in 1961. They went on to have three daughters: Kimberly, Paula and Danielle.
He was an active member of the First United Methodist Church and Jack enjoyed helping those in his community. He was always there to help someone in need with a smile and a laugh to put people at ease. Many years were also spent volunteering his services at Childrens Square in Council Bluffs.
In 2005, Jack retired so he could spend more time in the hills. If you drove down the Bluff Road and saw smoke it was probably Jack burning some brush, igniting a tree or just enjoying a fire. Saturdays were usually spent rooting for his Huskers and watching all of the football games.
Jack is survived by his spouse Pat Meek; daughter Kim (Brad) Alley-Wright; daughter Paula Kyle; daughter Danielle (Jason) Kight; 10 grandchildren: Nicole, Taylor, Elise, Drew, Lauren, Collin, Aaron, Carson, Olivia and Ava; seven great-grandchildren and brother William L. Meek.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Pauline Meek.
A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, December 9, 2022 at the First United Methodist Church in Hamburg, IA.
The family will greet friends at the church from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
Memorials may be given to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
