John T. Sammons, age 69 of Grand Island, NE (formerly Nebr. City) passed away on Monday, October 21, 2024 at the Grand Island Regional Medical Center in Grand Island, NE.
John Thomas Sammons; loving know as “JT” was born on September 25, 1955 in Nebraska City, NE; the son of George L. and Gelena M. (Cordell) Sammons. He grew up and attended school in Nebr. City.
John was married to Deborah Ann (Allgood) Sammons for 34 years and they had three sons: Jeremy, Beau and Lane. He was later united in marriage to Charlene Kay Cottingham on October 19, 2012 at the courthouse in Aurora, NE. He worked construction jobs for many years including sheet rocking with Rich Manley. He also worked for the Nebraska City Street Department and the Nebraska City Transfer Station. John also worked for Region V Services for some 32 years primarily as a house parent on the weekends. He was a volunteer for the Nebraska City Rescue Squad for some 25 years.
He is survived by his wife Charlene of Grand Island, NE; sons: John Jeremy Sammons, Beau Thomas Sammons and Lane Ryan Sammons all of Nebraska City; Dave Cottingham and wife Renea of Bellevue, NE; seven grandchildren: Gabe Sammons (Ariel), Kobe Sammons (Kennedee), Noah Sammons, Adisen Sammons, Jayda Sammons, Taelynn Sammons and Keegan Sammons; six great-grandchildren: Kinsley, Billie, Rylan, Andie, Grayson and Adley; his siblings: Ron Sammons (Gloria) of Pennsylvania, Kathy Sammons of Nebr. City, Linda Sammons of Nebr. City and Darlene Kallenberger (Dennis) of Richmond, MO; nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his mother Gelena on Jan. 22, 1984, his father George on Dec. 9, 2006, and a brother George W. Sammons on August 20, 2021.
Funeral Services will be held Friday; October 25, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. at Gude Mortuary in Nebraska City.
The family will greet friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Thursday at the mortuary.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the funeral home to help with funeral expenses.
