Jennie O. (Gardner) Rainey

Jennie O. Rainey, age 80 of Nebraska City, NE passed away on Wednesday, August 18, 2021 at her home.

Jennie was born on October 21, 1940 in Nebraska City, NE; the daughter of Athel and Jennie O. (Huey) Gardner.  She attended school at Kearney Hill School and then Nebraska City High School.

On July 1, 1959 she was united in marriage to Ellison Earl Rainey in Nebraska City.  He preceded her in death on October 13, 2013.  Jennie worked at Campbell’s Soup and Cargill before retiring.

Jennie enjoyed gardening, crocheting, playing video games and doing puzzles.

She is survived by her children:  Duane Rainey of Nebr. City, Jennie Hershey of Nebr. City, Johnny Rainey of Lincoln, NE and Julie Rainey of Nebr. City; five grandchildren:  Tolly Esser, Jennette Hershey, Alan Hershey, Lydia Chaney, and Joseph Furnas; 15 great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; sister Carol Applegate and brother Jack Gardner; other family and friends.

In addition to husband, Jennie was preceded in death by her son Earl Rainey in 2011 and her parents.

A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 24, 2021 at Gude Mortuary in Nebr. City with Rev. Michael Schmidt officiating.  Burial will follow at Wyuka Cemetery in Nebr. City.

The family will greet friends prior to the service from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the mortuary.
