Jeffery Yost Obituary

Jeffery Ray Yost, a resident of Nebraska City, Nebraska, went to Heaven on March 6, 2026, after saying goodbye to family members.

Jeff was born to Raymond “Boots” Yost and E. June (Newton) Yost, on October 2, 1962, in Nebraska City, Nebraska. He went to schools in Nebraska City and graduated from an Omaha trade school, majoring in mechanics. This education provided Jeff with a strong foundation for his life’s work and helped satisfy his need to know how things worked.  When Jeff was just 7 years old, he took apart the family’s toaster and put it back together again “because he wanted to know how it worked.”  Throughout Jeff’s life, he enjoyed repairing broken things – from vacuum cleaners to large machinery and river levies.   Jeff was highly regarded and respected for his knowledge.  He could operate, repair, and restore any type of construction equipment.  Family and friends share stories of Jeff doing construction work and fixing equipment in conditions which most people would consider impossible. Jeff worked his entire life in construction until he retired as the President of his own company, B-Y Excavating.

Jeff fell in love with his wife, Lisa, and they were married in Las Vegas, Nevada, on November 27, 2020.  They enjoyed several adventures together and traveled to many states, including Hawaii. But mostly, they enjoyed short outings and just being with each other on their acreage in Nebraska City. Jeff shared how fortunate he was to have found love with Lisa, who was a faithful, kind, and loving wife, as well as his best friend.

Jeff was genuine and fearless.  He will be remembered for his strength, grit, candor, and kind heart.  He avoided large crowds and gatherings but enjoyed casual, impromptu, one-on-one talks with his family and friends. Jeff loved to laugh and joke around.  Although Jeff’s tall and muscular stature could be somewhat intimidating, Jeff showed great love, kindness, and loyalty to his faithful family and friends. Jeff was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed.

Jeff is survived by his wife, Lisa; his sons, Eric and Jeffrey (spouse Talore); his brothers and sisters and (their spouses) – Randy (Tammy) Yost, Joni (Craig) Davis, Mary (Curt) Wurtele, Todd (Jill) Yost; brother-in-law Greg Schildberg - spouse of his sister, Kristina Schildberg, who passed on September 2, 2025; six grandchildren; Lisa’s daughter - Melissa (and Melissa’s son); aunt Faye Dale; nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends - especially Jeff Hotsenpillar, who was a close friend of Jeff for most of his life.

Jeff has been reunited with loved ones in Heaven, including his parents (Raymond and E. June Yost) and sister (Kristina Schildberg).

Gude Funeral Home in Nebraska City is in charge of the arrangements.
