Jeff D. Thomas

Jeff D. Thomas, age 73 of Hamburg, IA passed away on Tuesday, September 10, 2024 at Bryan East Medical Center in Lincoln, NE.

Jeff was born on July 20, 1951 in Hamburg, IA; the son of Homer Dorwin and Clara June (Clifton) Thomas.  He grew up and attended school in Hamburg, graduating from the Hamburg High School with the Class of 1969.  Shortly after his graduation, he entered and served in the Nebraska National Guard for two years.

Jeff was a farmer in his early years and later worked at the Manildra Ethanol Plant in Hamburg, IA.   After several years at Manildra, he went back to school at Metropolitan Technical College (Metro Tech) in Omaha, NE where he studied building construction.  He later started his own business - J&J Construction – eventually becoming an independent contractor.  He changed the name to Jeff Thomas Construction and continued in the business until his health failed.

He was united in marriage Jeannie Catlett on January 1, 2000 in Sidney, IA.

He is survived by his wife, Jeannie Thomas of Hamburg, IA; children:  Julie Clark (Rusty) of Nebr. City, NE, Beth Chatfield of Shenandoah, IA, Lacey Wurtele (Jason) of Ashland, NE, Dani Gamber (Steve) of Sidney, IA and Jennifer Zink (Josh) of Waverly, NE; ten grandchildren:  Kylee Foss, Lestat Chatfield, Jayde Wurtele, Jayli Wurtele, Avary Gamber, Emma Gamber, Paityn Gamber, Oakleigh Smith, Brooklynn Smith and Xander Smith; sisters-in-law:  Betsy Thomas of Rock Port, MO and Sharon Walter of Sidney, IA and brother-in-law Don Catlett of Hamburg, IA; numerous nieces, nephews, other family and friends.

Jeff was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Jerry Thomas.

A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, September 13, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. at the Rash-Gude Funeral Home in Hamburg, IA.  Burial will follow at the Linden Cemetery near  Rock Port, MO where he will be laid to rest next to his mother.  Military honors will be conducted by the Hamburg American Legion.

The family will greet friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 12, at the funeral home.
