Jean (Volkmer) Kreifels

Jean Kreifels, age 79 of Nebr. City passed away on Thursday, October 14, 2021 at her home surrounded by her loving family.

Jean Marie Kreifels was born on April 4, 1942 in Nebraska City, NE; the daughter of Herbert Carl and Rosa Leona (Leisman) Volkmer.  She attended school and graduated from Lourdes Central Catholic with the Class of 1960.

She was united in marriage to Clifford A. Kreifels on Sept. 9, 1961 at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church near Julian, NE and to this union four children were born:  Jerry, Judy, Janet and John.

Jean and Cliff moved from Columbus, NE back to Nebraska City in 1999 after Cliff’s retirement. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Nebr. City, Christian Mothers and St. Mary’s Choir.

She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Clifford Kreifels of Nebr. City; children:  Jerry Kreifels (Mary Kae) of El Dorado Hills, CA, Judy Wight (Brian) of Omaha, NE, Janet Kreifels (Bruce Johnson) of Springfield, MO and John Kreifels (Samara) of Omaha, NE; nine grandchildren:  Nicholas Kreifels, Jonathan Kreifels (Abby), Samuel Kreifels, Daniel Kreifels, Brianna Bass (Shane), Clairissa Wight, Jacob Wight(Samantha), Ian Kreifels (Ashlee) and Aniya Kreifels; four great-grandchildren:  Dylan, Brian, Jasey and Lilian; siblings:  Shirley Straub of Anderson, CA, Carol Kreifels of Nebr. City, Larry Volkmer (Carol) of Peru, NE, Rosemary Dutton (Jerry) of Syracuse, NE, Monica Lichtenberger (Pat) of Colorado Springs, CO and Leonard Volkmer (Deb) of Nebr. City; brothers-in-law:  Melvin Kreifels (Lila) and Leonard Kreifels both of Nebr. City; other family and friends.

Jean was preceded in death by her parents.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 19, 2021 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Nebr. City with Fr. Tom Schultes celebrating the Mass. 

The family will greet friends on Monday (10/18) from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Gude Mortuary in Nebr. City followed by a Rosary/Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m.

Memorials may be given to Children International or the charity of the donors choice.
