Janice L. Abbott, age 93 of Louisville, NE (formerly Ashland) passed away on Monday, May 13, 2024 at the Louisville Care Center in Louisville, NE.
Janice Lou Abbott was born on January 10, 1931 in Syracuse, NE; the daughter of Andrew and Alma M. (Behrens) Swanson. She was baptized October 10, 1931 at Luther Memorial Lutheran Church in Syracuse, NE. Janice attended school in Syracuse and graduated May 19, 1949 from Syracuse High School. After high school, Janice taught school for a year.
She married Darold Dean Abbott Sr. on April 22, 1950 (Arbor Day) in Sidney, Iowa and to this union nine children were born. In addition to raising her family, Janice worked at the Morton House, Ocomo Foods, Post Office in Elmwood, NE, Fireworks Plant in Mead, NE and the Ashland Country Club before retiring.
She was preceded in death by husband, Darold Abbott Sr.; sons, Allen Abbott, Darold (LD) Abbott Jr.; grandson, Heath Mason; great grandchildren; Destiny Suing, Morgan Teahon, Tristan Gagner; sons-in-law, Scott Lawton and Steve Gruber; sisters, Elda Heitbrink, Lois Money and Joann Abbott.
Survived by children and spouses, Mike (Debbie) Abbott, Ashland, NE, Patty Gruber, Manley, NE, Diane (Theodore) Poole, Ashland, NE, Peggy (Bob) Tweedy, Crofton, NE, Debbie (Dennis) Pike, LaVista, NE, Lori Lawton, Waverly, NE, Julie (Brad) Sawyer, Louisville, NE, daughter-in-law Tammy Abbott, Ashland, NE, 25 grandchildren; 49 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great grandchildren; sister Betty Walters, Lincoln, NE; sisters-in-law Wanda Barrett, Nebr. City, NE and Eleanor "Vernie" Eblen, Omaha, NE; and many other relatives and friends.
A Memorial Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, May 21, 2024 at Gude Mortuary in Nebraska City, NE. Burial will follow at Wyuka Cemetery in Nebr. City.
