James E. Johnson

James E. Johnson, age 66 of Nebraska City, NE peacefully passed away on Saturday, July 25, 2026 at his home.

James Edward Johnson was born on September 6, 1959 in Nebraska City, NE; the son of Edward L. and Mary E. (Prudden) Johnson.  He grew up in the Nehawka, NE area with his parents and later joined the Apace (Region V) Family in Nebraska City on September 14,  1976. 

James loved listening to various genres of music including artists such as Johnny Cash, Alan Jackson, Elvis Presley and the Beatles.  He had an extensive collection of records and would often play his guitar and sing along with the songs.  He was a “people” person that enjoyed visiting and being around others.  He also enjoyed bowling with his Apace friends.

He is survived by his sister Juanita Hoyle (Gail Adkins) of Bloomington, WI; nieces and nephews: Eddie Midkiff, Allen Midkiff (Shari), Chad Godsey (Cari), Shanda Monaghan (Patrick), Shelly Richt (Ace), Shawn Miller (Chrissy), Joseph Neumeister (Katie Burns) and Jami LaRiviere (Alex); numerous great-nieces and nephews and his Apace (Region V) Family.

James was preceded in death by his parents; sisters: Jean Neumeister and Georgia Bartlett and a nephew Christopher Johnson.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, July 31, 2026 at Gude Mortuary in Nebr. City.  Burial will follow at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery near Nehawka, NE.

The family will greet friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Gude Mortuary in Nebr. City on Thursday (7/30).

Memorials may be given to Apace (Region V) in his memory.
