James Hill Obituary

James E. Hill, age 76 of Nebraska City, NE passed away on Thursday, April 2, 2026 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Nebr. City.

James Ernest Hill was born on September 15, 1949 in Nebraska City, NE; the son of Norris James “Sonny”  and Katherine (McCune) Hill.  He grew up and attended school in Nebraska City, graduating from the Nebraska City High School with the Class of 1967. 

He worked at various jobs over the years including at Andrews Monument Company, Ocomo Foods and later at American Meter, where he worked in the Diecast Department for some 18 ½ years.  He enjoyed many hobbies including target shooting, walking, various types of exercise and simply staying in shape.  He was a talented artist and a very gifted drawer.   Spending time with his family was what he enjoyed the most.  Taking the kids to Steinhart Park Pond, amongst various other activities, is what he truly loved.

He is survived by his children: Edward Hill (Gin Schneider) of Nebr. City, NE and Laura Hill (Jeff Ruby) of Union, NE;  grandchildren: Landon Hill, Lily Barton (Bret Boehm), Nicole Howell, Damen Ruby and Azaria Ruby; two great-grandchildren: Harper Boehm and Tatum Boehm; a sister Nancy McCune (Jerry Musselman) of Tucson, AZ; other family and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

James E. Hill leaves behind a legacy of love and will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 9, 2026 at Gude Mortuary in Nebr. City with Pastor Terry Weible officiating.
