James L (Jim) Heng

James L. “Jim”  Heng, age 78 of Lincoln, NE passed away on Sunday, February 12, 2023 at Emerald (Lancaster) Rehabilitation Center in Lincoln.

James Lawrence Heng was born on July 30, 1944 in Nebraska City, NE; the son of Lawrence Joseph and Ardis Ann (Plager) Heng.  He grew up and attended school in Nebraska City, where he graduated from Lourdes Central Catholic with the Class of 1963.

On April 29, 1966, James was united in marriage to Cheryl Lynn Rohlfs at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Nebraska City and to this union three children were born:  Lori, Lawrence and Christopher.

Jim served in the United States Naval Reserves for many years and was very proud and honored to serve.  He worked at various grocery stores over the years as a Meat Cutter including at Super Saver, Hinky Dinky and Leon’s Food Mart.  Jim also taught meat cutting classes at Southeast Community College and he was a member of the American Legion and AmVets.  He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Lincoln and Knights of Columbus.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years Cheryl (Rohlfs) Heng of Lincoln, NE; children:  Lori Oberembt, Lawrence Heng (Shelly) and Christopher Heng all of Lincoln, NE; two grandchildren:  Anna Weigandt and James Weigandt (Kara); nephew Craig Hartman of Nebr. City; other family and friends.

Jim was preceded in death by his dad Lawrence in 1957, his mother Ardis in 2004 and his sister Carol Hartman in 2002.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 17, 2023 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Lincoln, NE with Fr. Valerian Bartek celebrating the Mass. 

A Rosary will be recited at 10:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church followed by the family greeting friends until 11:00 a.m.

Burial will take place at Wyuka Cemetery in Nebraska City at a later date.

A Memorial Fund is being established in his memory.
